What?

There is so much to know about fibre. What makes wool different from silk? Why should I use cotton for my summer garments instead of alpaca? In this class you will learn about the following aspects of fibre knowledge:

The types of fibres

• Plant-based fibre (cellulosic)
• Animal-based fibre (wools)
• Artificial fibres

What influences a yarn’s properties?

• Fibre processing (ie guard hair removal, staple length)
• Spinning (woolen vs worsted)
• Ply (1-4+)
• Treatment (ie superwash)

Yarns in action

• Advantages of plant-based fibre
• Advantages of animal-based fibre
• Advantages of artificial fibre
• Picking yarns for projects

Identifying yarns

• Tips + tricks
• Hands on practice
